Local News in Brief : Checks by CHP Take 139 Trucks Off Road

Share

The California Highway Patrol ordered 139 commercial trucks off the road for faulty brakes and other safety problems during two days of surprise inspections along the Simi Valley Freeway in Moorpark, the CHP reported Thursday.

Six teams of CHP inspectors, working alongside the freeway near Gabbert Street, inspected 302 commercial trucks Tuesday and Wednesday and issued 253 tickets, Officer Jim Utter said. On Tuesday, 59 trucks were ordered temporarily out of service for brake, steering, suspension and other mechanical problems, he said, and 80 were ordered off the road Wednesday.

Most of the problems were minor, Utter said. Some trucks had to be towed for repairs.

The Simi Valley Freeway does not have a truck inspection station, Utter said. As a result, many drivers use the freeway to avoid the Ventura Freeway, which has inspection facilities, he said.
