WEEKEND SPORTS RUNDOWN

With the NFL players’ strike disrupting this weekend’s games, what’s a pro football fan to do?

One option is to catch a replay of last January’s Super Bowl XXI between the New York Giants and Denver Broncos on CBS. The rebroadcast at 10:30 a.m. on Channels 2 and 8 will be preceded at 9:30 a.m. by an expanded “NFL Today” reporting on negotiations between the owners and players.

Meanwhile, NBC will counter with an hourlong “NFL Live” at 9:30 a.m. (4)(36)(39). That will be followed at 10:30 a.m. by baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays-Detroit Tigers showdown in Toronto.

The Blue Jays and Tigers also will take the field today at 10:15 a.m. (4)(36) on NBC’s Game of the Week.

As a substitute for “Monday Night Football,” ABC will televise the 1984 film, “Star Trek III: The Search for Spock” at 9 p.m.

Despite the preemption of pro football, there’s a pair of college games to fill the void for local viewers. Prime Ticket cable will carry tape-delayed telecasts of Arizona vs. UCLA at 9:30 tonight and USC vs. Cal at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Other college clashes on tap today: Ohio State vs. Louisiana State at 11:30 a.m. (2)(8); Nebraska vs. Arizona State at 12:25 p.m. (7)(3)(10)(42) and Penn State vs. Boston College at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN cable.

For tennis fans, there’s the Volvo Tournament airing today at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. on Channel 2. Sunday will bring the Aspen Tennis Festival at 1 p.m. (4) and the Mita Pro/Celebrity Festival at 3 p.m. (7)(3)(42).
