Garden Grove League : Bolsa Grande Rolls on Lui’s 4 TDs
Bolsa Grande High School only has four running backs on its football roster, but Friday night, depth wasn’t important as the foursome combined for 552 yards rushing in a 51-6 rout of La Quinta at Bolsa Grande.
Senior Travin Lui led the Matadors (5-0, 2-0) with 202 yards in only 14 carries, scoring 4 touchdowns on runs of 56, 15, 13 and 18 yards.
“We used everyone we had,” said Matador Coach Greg Shadid. “We aren’t trying to run the score up on anyone, but it’s hard telling a kid not to score.”
The Matadors have defeated their last three opponents by a combined score of 146-6.
Bolsa Grande quarterback Damon Fisher, who rushed for 149 yards in 15 carries, opened the scoring with a 15-yard first-quarter run, and later in the half scored on an 8-yard run. Fisher has scored nine touchdowns in the last three games.
The Aztecs (0-5, 0-2) broke the Matadors’ string of 15 consecutive scoreless quarters when quarterback Jeff Anderson found Vince Fusillo free for a 10-yard touchdown pass from a fake field goal formation to start the fourth quarter.
The Matadors also got 133 yards from Ricky Letule in 15 attempts. Eric Shimomura’s 14-yard return of an Aztec fumble for a touchdown and Mark Miller’s 43-yard field goal in the first quarter completed the scoring.
