Monday will mark the 495th anniversary of the landing on one of the Bahamas of Italian navigator Christopher Columbus, who thought he had reached Asia and who was widely credited for discovering America, even though others preceded him at more northerly latitudes.

Closed: Los Angeles City and County offices, state and federal offices, Post Offices, banks, Superior, Municipal and federal courts.

Open: Los Angeles city and county schools, most stores, the stock market and the Los Angeles County Law Library.
