Turner Upsets Second-Seeded Snow in Wheelchair Tennis Quarterfinal
Chip Turner, the fifth-seeded player from Carmichael, Calif., upset second-seeded Randy Snow of Carrollton, Tex., 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, in a men’s quarterfinal match of the U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis Tournament at the Racquet Club of Irvine Friday.
In other quarterfinal matches, top-seeded Brad Parks of San Clemente defeated Bob Vadenbroek of Holland, 6-3, 6-1; Laurent Giammartini of Cannes, France, defeated Mick Connell of Sydney, Australia, 6-3, 6-1, and Dave Kiley of San Dimas defeated Chip Paramelly of Diamond Bar, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0.
In the women’s semifinals, Chantal Vandierendonck of Holland, the top-ranked player in the world, defeated Ellen DeLange of Holland, 6-0, 6-0.
Monique VandenBosch of Holland, seeded second, defeated Terry Lewis of San Leandro, 6-0, 2-6, 6-0.
VandenBosch will meet Vandierendonck in the women’s final today at 1 p.m.
