Anaheim : Union Rejected, 23-12, by KDOC-TV Empoyees
Employees at KDOC-TV voted, 23-12, Friday against joining the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, according to station officials.
“We are very happy that we won and that the employees put their faith in management and that we can go forward now,” said Sue Hooper, who handles public relations for the station.
Union officials said employees had petitioned the National Labor Relations Board for an election because of dissatisfaction with working conditions and wages.
“The management of KDOC has been regressive,” said John Vivrett, president and business manager of IBEW Local 2139, which sought to represent the workers. Vivrett said workers had gone without raises for a long time and had lost holidays they once had.
“We were surprised by the margin of victory,” Hooper said. “There had been a lot of campaigning.”
Officials with the union and those who who supervised the election for the NLRB could not be reached for comment.
