Newport Beach’s Duesler Wins Match
Top-seeded Bob Duesler of Newport Beach defeated Jim Landin of Hilton Head, S.C., 6-1, 6-3, Saturday to move into the semifinals of the USTA hardcourt national tennis tournament.
In competition for players 50 and older at Westlake Tennis and Swim Club, second-seeded Herman Ahlers of Dana Point defeated Don Maulding of Somerville, N.J., 6-1, 6-0.
In another quarterfinal match, third-seeded Len Lindborg of Fountain Valley defeated Tom Brown of San Francisco, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
The final quarterfinal winner was fourth-seeded Jim Nelson of Newport Beach, who beat George Gill of Tinton Falls, N.J., 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
