THE COLLEGES : Fullerton to Open Season Against Montana With New Mix

Cal State Fullerton, a team that has a mixture of proven players and inexperienced talent, will open its basketball season against Montana at 6:30 (PST) tonight in Montana’s Dahlberg Arena.

Guard Richard Morton and small forward Henry Turner, the leading scorers on last season’s 17-13 team, both return, as does veteran point guard Eugene Jackson.

At power forward and center, however, the Titans may start one or two players who did not play last season. Bobby Adair, a 6-foot 9-inch junior, was a redshirt at Fullerton last season after he transferred from Utah. John Sykes, a 6-8, 235-pound sophomore, attended Merced College but did not play after he transferred from Texas.

Should Fullerton Coach George McQuarn choose to start more experienced players at either position, Vincent Blow and Oval Miller, both seniors, would be the likely candidates.

Fullerton has been picked to finish third in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. by a vote of conference coaches, and received two first-place votes. Nevada Las Vegas was picked to repeat as PCAA champion, with San Jose State second.

Montana (2-0), a member of the Big Sky Conference, has defeated Wisconsin-Stout and Eastern Montana each by four points. Both are Division II teams.
