Local News in Brief : Irvine : 1-Year-Old Drowns in Spa in Backyard
A 1-year-old boy fell into a backyard spa and drowned Thursday in the 19100 block of Sierra Majorca in the Turtle Rock area.
Joshua Herbert was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m. at Health Care Medical Center in Tustin, where attempts to revive him failed, Irvine Police Lt. Sam Allevato said.
The mother found the boy floating face down in the spa after she had noticed he was missing about 3:15 p.m., Allevato said.
The spa is fenced, but the boy apparently reached the spa by going through a bedroom door that leads directly to it, police said.
