The University of Southern Mississippi announced that it had accepted the resignation of football Coach Jim Carmody, who led the Golden Eagles to 6-5 records the past two seasons. His six-year record at the school was 37-29.
Carmody, 51, received a new three-year contract extension last December. The contract reportedly includes a buyout clause. His salary this year was $68,256.
Rumors that Carmody was leaving began shortly after a flap caused by his remarks concerning two rival universities. At his weekly press conference Monday, Carmody said Mississippi and Mississippi State “were big-time losers.”
