American Jockey Wins Hanshin Overall Title

American jockey Cash Asmussen won one race, finished second, third and sixth in the others and won the overall title Sunday in the four-race International Invitational Horse Races at Hanshin Race Course.

Asmussen, 25, riding Wonder Resist, won the one-mile Golden Saddle Trophy race by a neck and finished third in the 1-mile Golden Whip Trophy race Sunday, bringing his total to 165 points.

On Saturday, Asmussen, on Toa Souru, finished second in the Golden Spur Trophy race and sixth in the Golden Boots Trophy event.

Asmussen won a prize of $22,730 plus a gold trophy.

Yukio Okabe of Japan came in second with 140 points after winning the Golden Whip race by a neck and finishing second in the Golden Saddles race Sunday.

Third overall was Japan’s Hiroshi Kawachi with one victory, one third-place finish and one fifth for 135 points.

Laffit Pincay was next with 1 victory for 100 points.

The winner of each race received 100 points, the runner-up 40, the third-place finisher 25, the fourth-place finisher 15 and the fifth-place finisher 10.

Each jockey also received a $7,600 allowance for each race.

Seven foreign and three Japanese jockeys competed.
