San Diego High School Basketball : Mission Bay Holds Off Ramona in Tournament

Share

Seniors Mike Endsley and Keith Berkley both made free throws with less than a minute to play to give Mission Bay High School a 46-45 victory over Ramona in the Torrey Pines round-robin basketball tournament Tuesday night.

Even though Endsley made two with 45 seconds to play and Berkley made two with nine seconds left, Ramona had a chance to win. Ramona almost scored an uncontested layup with just a few seconds left.

Because of a new rule, the referee can put the ball in play if a team does not come out of its huddle promptly after a timeout. After a timeout following Berkley’s free throws, Ramona threw the ball the length of the court as Mission Bay came out of the huddle slowly. Ramona had a player standing alone under the basket but could not convert because the inbounds pass sailed out of bounds.
