Two drivers were killed in separate accidents Thursday when their vehicles went out of control and crashed, the California Highway Patrol reported.

In one accident, Rachel Afaese, 19, of Escondido, was traveling north on Interstate 15 in Rancho California at 85 m.p.h. at 9:37 a.m. A CHP officer saw Afaese weaving in and out of traffic to pass cars and unsuccessfully attempted to overtake her small car.

Afaese’s car overturned when it slammed into a freeway embankment and she was thrown through the rear window. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the other accident, Michael McIntyre, 30, of El Cajon was westbound on Willow Glen Road in Rancho San Diego about 8:45 a.m. when he passed two trucks, crossed into the eastbound lane, and slammed into a truck trailer. He was also pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP reported.
