Golf Roundup : Hulbert-Tway Leading by Five Shots After 59

Mike Hulbert and Bob Tway shot a 13-under-par 59 Friday to surge into a five-stroke lead at the halfway point of the $600,000 Chrysler PGA team championship at West Palm Beach, Fla.

Hulbert and Tway, runners-up a year ago, had 11 birdies and an eagle at the Palm Beach Polo and Country Club for a two-round score of 120.

The teams of Jeff Sluman-Robert Wrenn and Fred Couples-Mike Donald were tied for second place at 125.

Defending champions Gary Hallberg and Scott Hoch, who were tied for the lead with Hulbert and Tway after the first round, shot a second-round 66 and fell into a four-way tie seven strokes off the pace.

Sluman and Wrenn birdied five of the last six holes for a 63. Couples and Donald also shot a 63, making six birdies on their first nine holes.

Orville Moody tied a course record by shooting a seven-under-par 65 to take a two-stroke lead in the first round of a $300,000 seniors tournament at Kaanapali, Hawaii.

Moody had an eagle, six birdies and a bogey on the 6,704-yard Royal Kaanapali North course to tie the record set by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus in 1964 while playing in the Canada Cup, now called the World Cup.

Following Moody at 67 were Bobby Nichols and Charles Coody. Doug Dalziel, Dave Hill, Dale Douglass and former NFL quarterback John Brodie were next at 68.
