Center Bob Bourne of the Kings was one of eight athletes named by Sports Illustrated this week as Sportsmen and Sportswomen of the Year, a group honor dedicated, the magazine said, to “Athletes who care.”

Dale Murphy of the Atlanta Braves, hurdler Judi Brown King, fullback Chip Rives of Wake Forest, Rory Sparrow of the Chicago Bulls, distance runner Kip Keino, golfer Patty Sheehan and Reggie Williams of the Cincinnati Bengals also were honored.
