U.S. Olympians Score 5-2 Hockey Win Over Soviets

Scott Young and Scott Fusco scored two goals each Saturday night to lead the U.S. Olympic hockey team to a 5-2 victory over the Soviet Selects.

The Americans, 5-1 in the eight-game series, scored four second-period power-play goals to overcome a 2-0 deficit before a crowd of 19,366.

Young’s goals were his first of the series, and he has 10 in pre-Olympic play. Craig Janney scored the other U.S. goal, and goalie Mike Richter stopped 25 shots.

With Team USA on a four-on-three power play, Fusco tied the score, 2-2, at 10:58 of the second period, converting a pass from Corey Millen. Young scored at 18:43 and 19:50 on passes from Tony Granato.

Fusco made it 5-2 when he tipped Lane MacDonald’s shot at 3:22 of the third period.

The series continues today at Indianapolis.
