THE PREPS : Westminster Forfeits 3 Victories for Violation
The Westminster High School boys’ basketball team has forfeited three victories and the Valencia tournament championship for violating a residential eligibility rule, school officials announced.
Dick Katz, Westminster coach, said a player moved from his mother’s residence in Sacramento to his father’s in Westminster. Westminster officials’ failure to notify the Southern Section of the transfer was a violation.
Westminster has forfeited victories against Sonora, El Modena and Buena Park, making its record 3-4.
“We knew the rules, we just screwed up,” Katz said. “It’s not the kid’s fault. We should have notified them, and we didn’t.”
The Southern Section, since notified of the player’s move, has ruled him eligible for the remainder of the season.
