USIU Rallies Past Morgan State, 94-87
United States International University rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Morgan State, 94-87, in a nonconference men’s basketball game in Golden Hall Monday night.
Russ Heicke scored a career-high 39 points to lead the Gulls (5-8).
Morgan State led, 50-46, at the half. USIU took a lead it never gave up with 11 minutes remaining in the game on a six-foot jumper by Heicke that gave the Gulls a 67-66 lead. USIU’s second-half lead was never greater than eight points.
Morgan State had five players foul out and finished the game with four players on the court. Morgan State had 34 personal fouls and USIU was called for 27.
Steve Smith added 13 points for USIU. William Lawson led Morgan State (5-2) with 17 points.
The teams meet again tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Golden Hall.
