A 22-year-old man standing in the dining room of his mother’s house Wednesday night was seriously wounded by a gunman outside who fired through a closed window, police said.

Michael D. Lemaster of Tustin was listed in stable condition Thursday at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with bullet wounds in his upper chest and neck, police said.

“This appears to be a random-type situation,” said Tustin Police Sgt. Mark Bergquist.

A neighbor called police about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday to report a loud noise and a woman screaming, police said. Police found Lemaster wounded and lying inside his mother’s house in the 2100 block of Poppy Drive.

Detectives determined that the assailant stood outside the house and fired through a closed window. The screams occurred when Lemaster’s mother found him after the shooting, Bergquist said.

Police have no suspect, Bergquist said.
