A moderate earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale rumbled through the desert Thursday northeast of Palm Springs.

The temblor struck at 1:34 p.m. and was centered about four miles north-northeast of Yucca Valley, said Caltech spokesman Robert Finn.
