The Region : Small Quake Hits Area
A small earthquake struck parts of the San Gabriel Valley on Saturday, but no injuries were reported and few residents apparently noticed it.
The quake, measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale, hit at 3:52 a.m., said Caltech spokesman Bob Finn.
Finn said the tremor was an aftershock of the Oct. 1 Whittier quake, which measured 5.9 on the Richter scale. The major quake and its aftershocks have been blamed for seven deaths and $213 million in damage.
The Los Angeles County sheriff’s station in Temple City received three or four phone calls from residents, but nobody reported any damage, a spokesman said. A smattering of calls also was received at other local law-enforcement agencies.
