Tonight’s UC Irvine-CS Fullerton Game Matches Teams With Contrasting Styles

UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton will bring contrasting styles into their basketball game tonight at Fullerton. But the teams have at least one thing in common. Each will be seeking its first Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. win of the season.

Irvine (5-5 and 0-1) has an up-tempo offense that has given the Anteaters a 91.2 scoring average. Twice, however, they have scored 100 or more points and lost.

The Titans (4-7 and 0-2) have put their focus on a slower half-court game.

The teams have opposite scoring bases as well. Center Wayne Engelstad leads the Anteaters with a 22.9-point, 7.6-rebound average. Fullerton, on the other hand, gets most of its scoring from guard Richard Morton, who is averaging 23.6 points.

Irvine swept the regular-season series last year, but the Titans beat the Anteaters in a PCAA tournament game.
