Nonleague Roundup : Santa Ana Rallies to Edge Brea-Olinda : Joyce and Lynwood Lead Saints’ Comeback for 55-54 Victory

Bobby Joyce had 15 points and Scootie Lynwood 12 to lead Santa Ana High School to a 55-54 victory over Brea-Olinda Friday in a boys’ nonleague game at Brea-Olinda.

Santa Ana (14-3) trailed, 41-38, entering the fourth quarter, but outscored the Wildcats, 17-13. Santa Ana is the second-ranked team in the Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. poll behind Mater Dei.

Keith Walker scored 17 points and David Bittman 14 for Brea-Olinda (7-7).

In other nonleague games:

Saddleback 64, Magnolia 45--Gylan Dotton scored 19 points and Craig Marshall added 17 to lead Saddleback at Magnolia. Malru Dotton was sick and didn’t play. Saddleback led, 25-16, at the end of the first quarter and led 42-25 at the half.

Mike Goff led Magnolia with 13 points and also had 13 rebounds. Jerry Jones added 12 for Magnolia.

Villa Park 49, Orange 35--Forwards Roger Branstine and Steve Waldrip scored 11 points each to lead Villa Park (2-10) at Orange. John Rodriguez scored a game-high 13 points for Orange (3-9).

Newport Harbor 54, Costa Mesa 49-- Mike Nguyen scored 15 to lead a balanced attack for the Sailors (12-4) at home. Timmy Nguyen of Costa Mesa (3-9) scored 19 to lead all scorers.

Foothill 57, University 50--Ned Williams scored 16 points and Bill Mazurie 13 to lead Foothill, which snapped a four-game losing streak at home.

University led, 25-24, at the half but Foothill rallied in the third quarter to take a 44-35 lead. Steve Stolzoff led University with 18 points. Rusty Van Cleave added 14 for Foothill which outrebounded University, 22-19.

San Clemente 60, Anaheim 42--Mike Peters scored 17 points and Mark Brocccardo 14 to lead the host Tritons (2-8). San Clemente trailed, 13-10, after the first quarter, but outscored Anaheim, 37-17, over the next two quarters. Marcus Mitchell scored 15 points for the Colonists.

Dana Hills 73, Trabuco Hills 63--The Dolphins (7-6) outscored the Mustangs, 23-13, in the fourth quarter for a victory at Trabuco Hills. Chris McIntyre and John Lloyd each scored 18 points for Danma Hills. Trabuco Hills (9-5) was led by Rick Swanwick with 21 points.

Western 90, Bellflower 61--Chris Bowner had 28 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Pioneers. Joey Romero had 14 points and seven rebounds for Western.

In the Academy League:

Cal Lutheran 49, Newport Christian 47--Curt Sacks scored 17 points to lead Cal Lutheran at Newport Christian. Wayne Everett had 23 points Conquerors (3-7, 1-7).
