Dan Pohl scored a hole in one while registering a two-stroke victory in a nine-hole shootout that served as a prelude to the $500,000 Tournament of Champions that opens Thursday at La Costa Country Club.
Pohl used a 5-iron for his ace on the 181-yard third hole and shot a five-under-par 31 to win the event matching the nine leaders of the 1987 PGA Tour’s statistical categories. Pohl won $75,000 as the shootout winner, $10,000 for the hole in one and $1,250 for hitting the most greens in regulation.
