Flores Resigns; Raiders Looking
Tom Flores, who guided the Raiders to two Super Bowl titles, retired from coaching today after a 5-10 season, the team’s worst in 25 years.
Team owner Al Davis indicated that it will be some time before he will name Flores’ replacement, although it has been speculated that he might hire a black head coach. If Davis does so, Flores’ successor will be the first black head coach in the modern-day NFL. “I would hope that the Raiders would have a new head coach by the league meetings in March,” Davis said at a press conference at an airport area hotel. Four blacks are among the rumored candidates for the job.
