Basketball : Cal Lutheran Men Notch 3rd Consecutive Victory

James Faulk’s layup with 30 seconds left helped give Cal Lutheran an 80-73 Golden State Athletic Conference win over Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday night. It was the third consecutive victory for the Kingsmen, who have won four of their last five games.

Steve deLaveaga led Cal Lutheran (9-10, 4-1 in conference play) with a game-high 25 points, including a three-point shot that tied the score at 73-73 with 45 seconds to play. Jeff Logsdon, who earlier stole an inbound pass that set up deLaveaga’s three-pointer, fed Faulk with an inside pass for the game-winner.

Biola 98, The Master’s 47--Five Biola players scored in double figures as the Eagles extended their undefeated streak in NAIA District III play to nine games. Junior forward David Knechtel scored 10 points for The Master’s.

WOMEN

The Master’s 60, Biola 57--Michele Rowell made a free throw with less than a minute remaining for The Master’s in the NAIA District III game at Biola.

Shelmarie Tatum scored 17 points for Master’s (9-9, 4-6). The Mustangs’ Kim Vargas and Deanna Mincks both added 16 points.

BOYS

El Camino 63, Reseda 52--El Camino outscored host Reseda, 34-20, in the second half as the Regents remained winless in Valley League play. Brent Lofton scored a game-high 30 points for El Camino Real (2-6 in league play).

Sylmar 40, Verdugo Hills 34--Shawn Rucker scored 10 points for Sylmar in the East Valley League game at Verdugo Hills.

Faith Baptist 65, Providence 37--Rich Leon scored 19 points and Jason Henderson added 11 as Faith Baptist (4-3 in league play) cruised to a Delphic League win at Providence. Peter Mirkovich led Providence (1-13, 0-6 in league play) with 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Cathedral 68, St. Genevieve 51--After trailing 47-22 in the third quarter, St. Genevieve went on a 19-2 run to narrow the lead to 49-41, but couldn’t draw any closer in the Santa Fe League game at Harvard.

GIRLS

Thousand Oaks 62, Simi Valley 44--Kris Pederson scored 24 points to lead Thousand Oaks in the Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Notre Dame 58, Bell-Jeff 48--Notre Dame moved into sole possession of third place in the San Fernando League with a win over second-place Bell-Jeff. Center Andrea Banducci scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Chrissi Burnap added 15 points and 14 rebounds for Notre Dame (8-8, 3-3 in league play).
