College Basketball : Fresno State Women Beat Irvine, 59-48

Yvette Roberts scored 21 points and Lisa Agent 20 to lead Fresno State to a 59-48 victory over UC Irvine Thursday night in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women’s basketball game at Fresno State.

The loss snapped the Anteaters’ three-game winning streak.

The Bulldogs (9-7, 4-3 in the PCAA) had a 31-27 halftime lead, then extended it behind the shooting of Roberts and Agent.

Irvine’s Natalie Crawford scored 16 points to become the fourth player in school history to top the 1,000-point mark; she now has 1,002. Crawford also had eight rebounds.

The Anteaters are 6-10 and 4-4.

Cal Poly Pomona 75, Chapman 63--Sophomore center Niki Bracken scored 22 points to lead the host Broncos, ranked third in NCAA Division II.

Pomona (16-3, 4-0) built a 36-20 lead with four minutes left in the first half and never let the Panthers get closer than eight points.

Junior guard Cathy Gooden had 17 points and 6 steals for the Broncos.

Senior guard Karen Polk scored 19 points and Karen Rieff added 14 for Chapman (10-6, 1-2).

In a men’s nonconference game:

Biola 85, Southern California College 74--Senior forward Johnny Griffin scored 25 points to lead Biola, ranked third in the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics, to the victory at home.

Guard Jeff Martineau added 17 points for Biola (21-1) and P.J. Wnek scored 12. Biola outrebounded SCC, 44-24.

Jeff Bickmore scored 14 points for SCC (8-11), and Jim Mansfield and Mike Lightfoot each added 13.
