THE PREPS : Orange League Basketball : James’ Shot Gives Valencia Win Over Western
Senior forward Bernie James made a 15-foot jump shot as time ran out to lift Valencia High School to a 55-53 victory over Western in an Orange League boys’ basketball game Friday at Western.
James finished with 10 points for Valencia (10-7, 4-2). Chris Bowen scored a game-high 19 for Western (11-7, 2-4) which led, 41-36, at the end of three quarters.
Savanna 71, Anaheim 52--Tim Tillman scored 16 points and Eric Shinkle 14 to lead Savanna (17-3, 6-0) at Anaheim. Savanna jumped out to a 27-8 first-quarter lead and was never challenged. Richard Kemple had 11 points and 10 assists for Savanna. Marcus Mitchell scored 19 points for Anaheim (0-6, 1-15).
Brea-Olinda 72, Magnolia 61--Matt Chamberlin scored 29 points, 16 in the second half, for Brea-Olinda (11-9, 3-2) at Magnolia. The score was tied, 35-35, at halftime, but Brea outscored Magnolia, 19-11, in the third quarter and never trailed again. Keith Walker had 17 points for Brea. Mike Goff had 24 points and Brian Wilson 18 for Magnolia (8-11, 2-4).
