Top officials of the world amateur basketball federation (FIBA) have proposed a change in eligibility rules that would open the Olympics to NBA stars and other professionals. The change would go into effect after this summer’s Games in Seoul, South Korea.

“Under the proposal, National Basketball Assn. stars would be able to play at the Olympics and world championships,” FIBA’s secretary general Bora Stankovic said.

Stankovic said National Basketball Assn. stars would be eligible for the 1990 World Championships in Argentina and the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
