THE PREPS : Girls’ Basketball : Hisaka’s Record 38 Points Boost Fountain Valley

Stacey Hisaka scored 38 points to set a school single-game scoring record and to lead Fountain Valley High School to an 81-70 come-from-behind victory over Huntington Beach Tuesday night in a Sunset League girls’ basketball game at Fountain Valley.

Hisaka, who broke the former record of 37 points set by Chris Wycinowski in 1981, scored 12 of her points on three-point field goals.

Huntington Beach led, 42-30, at the half, but Fountain Valley (14-9, 6-1) outscored Huntington Beach, 26-12, in the third quarter, and 25-16 in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Stefanie Pemper scored 25 points to lead Huntington Beach (12-8, 4-3).

In other Sunset League games:

Edison 52, Westminster 37--Krisden Tanabe’s 21 points and 11 rebounds and Stefanie Moorman’s 12 points led Edison (16-7, 4-3) at Westminster. Westminster (4-17, 0-7) was led by Shannon Bates’ 14 points.

Marina 64, Ocean View 47--Liberty Brewster had 18 points and 9 rebounds and Dawn Charroin had 17 points and 8 rebounds to lead Marina (19-3, 6-1). Erika Whistler scored 15 points for Ocean View.

In the Century League:

Foothill 55, Santa Ana 34--Ashley Selman scored 9 of her game-high 16 points in the second quarter, when Foothill outscored Santa Ana, 17-8, to take a 30-20 halftime lead. Ashley also had 8 steals, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Tanya Fox scored 13 points for Foothill (12-8, 7-0). Trina Bruce had 13 points for Santa Ana (8-8, 3-4).

Canyon 80, El Modena 54--Carri Erkenbrack scored 14 of her game-high 28 points in the first quarter, as Canyon (12-7, 6-1) built an 18-5 lead. Erkenbrack also had 17 rebounds in the game. Lisa Iino had 20 points and Randi Pankratz 18 for Canyon.

Santa Ana Valley 58, Villa Park 41--Francesca Rumps had 26 points and 18 rebounds to lead Santa Ana Valley, which is 2-5 in league play. Nilda Valdez had 16 points and Maria Guerrero 12 for Santa Ana Valley. Dominique Rumps helped out inside with 26 rebounds for Santa Ana Valley.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 50, Fullerton 27--Michelle Reeves scored 21 points and Robin Seabrook added 20 to lead La Habra (7-0 in league play) at Fullerton. Sabryna Welch scored nine points to lead Fullerton (13-6, 5-2).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 34, Laguna Beach 33--Senior forward/center Christy Grebel scored 20 points and had 21 rebounds to lead Laguna Hills at Laguna Beach. Liz Stal led Laguna Beach (9-7, 3-4) with 16 points. Laguna Hills is 4-12, 2-5.

Woodbridge 68, Costa Mesa 32--Kathy Millat scored 17 points to lead visiting Woodbridge (18-5, 6-1).

In the Sea View League:

University 34, Tustin 29--Sandy Johnson scored all of her 10 points in the second half, as University (9-7, 5-2) rallied in the second half at Tustin. The victory moves University into a first-place tie with Tustin and Estancia.

University trailed, 11-9, at halftime, but outscored Tustin, 9-6, in the third quarter to take a one-point lead. Shelley Davis had 12 points and 11 rebounds for University. Sherry Crawford and Teresa Perkins each scored eight points for Tustin (13-10, 5-2).

Estancia 48, Newport Harbor 35--Shawna Newbern had 25 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 blocked shots to lead host Estancia (14-7, 5-2). Newport Harbor was led by Stacey Giem, who scored 14 points.

Saddleback 84, Corona del Mar 46--Melody Mayfield had 20 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists, and Monica Walton added 21 points to lead Saddleback (15-4, 4-3). Leann Larriva scored 13 points and Claudia Rodriguez 11 for Corona del Mar.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 54, Dana Hills 11--Tricia Stringam scored 18 points to lead Mission Viejo (18-5, 6-1) at home. Tina Ranker and Shannon Morgan scored 10 points each to help the Diablos.

Capistrano Valley 52, Irvine 51--Heather Schoeny scored 4 of her game-high 19 points in the final two minutes to boost Capistrano Valley at Irvine. Irvine (8-13, 3-4) outscored Capistrano Valley, 21-15, in the fourth quarter to close a 10-point halftime deficit. Haley Rome scored 12 points and Barbara Kozlowski 11 to lead Irvine. Capistrano Valley is 6-1 in league play.

In the Academy League:

Liberty Christian 71, Heritage 15--Liberty Christian gained a 23-0 first-quarter lead and was never challenged at Melodyland. Sharon Crouch scored 30 points and Heather Cielnicky 21 points to lead Liberty Christian (15-1, 10-0). Heritage is 0-9.

In the Express League:

Wilmington Christian 66, Claremont 20--Tiffany Richardson scored 20 points for Wilmington Christian (13-1, 9-0) at the Huntington Valley Boys’ Club. Hope Norris had 13 points for Claremont (2-12, 2-8).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 38, Orange Lutheran 37--Angela Garza, who scored 18 points, made two free throws with 15 seconds left to give Whittier Christian (8-10, 5-3) the victory.

Orange Lutheran had a chance to win in the final six seconds, but Garza got a rebound on a missed jump shot. Orange Lutheran led, 22-20, at halftime and by as many as six points in the third quarter. Pam Marty had 12 points and 13 rebounds for Orange Lutheran (8-6, 4-5).

Capistrano Valley Christian 41, Brethren 29--Carrie Shannon’s nine points led Capistrano Valley Christian (6-10, 2-7) at home. Brethren was led by Cathi Bell’s 11 points.
