UCI’s Kaplan Advances; Chapman’s Walker Falls
Mark Kaplan of UC Irvine defeated Eric Chin of Utah, 6-3, 6-3, Thursday in the opening round of the National Collegiate Men’s Indoor Tennis Championships at Minneapolis.
Kaplan, the seventh-seeded player, will play Alex Nizet of Southern Methodist University today in the second round. Nizet is seeded 32nd in the tournament.
Pat Emmet of Rollins College defeated Miles Walker of Chapman in the final of the Small College National Indoor Championships at Minneapolis, also Thursday. Emmet, the top-ranked player in NCAA Division II, beat second-ranked Walker, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
