The Arena Football League will operate with six teams this year with new franchises in Los Angeles, the New York metropolitan area, Detroit and Providence, R.I., it was announced by league President Jim Foster.
Chicago and Pittsburgh will be the only holdover franchises from last year’s four-team league. Washington and Denver, members in the first year of operation, have dropped out.
The Los Angeles team will play in the Sports Arena.
Arena football is played on a 50-yard field with eight-man squads playing both offense and defense. The first games will be April 29.
