THE PREPS : Sea View League Basketball : Win Over Estancia Gives Saddleback First Title

Saddleback High School clinched the first league title in the 21-year history of the school with a 65-44 victory over Estancia in a Sea View League boys’ basketball game Friday at Saddleback.

Saddleback’s victory and Tustin’s loss to Newport Harbor gave the title to Saddleback outright. Estancia (15-12, 4-6) finishes in third.

Gylan Dottin scored 19 points, had 10 rebounds and 10 assists for Saddleback (21-4, 9-1).

Craig Marshall scored 13 and Tony Agnew 10 for Saddleback.

In other Sea View League games:

Newport Harbor 65, Tustin 46--Newport Harbor shot 60% (27 of 45) from the field in the upset of Tustin, which was ranked fifth in the Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. poll this week. Mike Nguyen scored 18 points on 9 of 14 shooting for Newport Harbor (15-11, 3-7). Newport Harbor led, 42-33, after three quarters and outscored Tustin, 23-13, in the fourth quarter.

Leo Parker scored 14 for Tustin (21-5, 8-2), which finished in second place.

University 58, Corona del Mar 57 (OT)--Dave Warren scored 22 points and Steve Stolzoff 17 to lead University (11-14, 3-7) at Corona del Mar. Brian Spratt and Matt Cwiertnia each scored 16 points for Corona del Mar (12-12, 3-7).
