Special to The Times

Nineteen of the 29 yachts in the San Diego-to-Manzanillo race finished by noon Sunday, but continued light winds had the others drifting toward the finish from 71 to 200 miles out.

The biennial event turned into a big boat race with the IOR Class A boats taking the overall honors.

Citius, co-skippered by Nick and Bob Frazee, made it a clean sweep with a first to finish, first in Class A and first overall.

Second was Blondie, sailed by Pat Farrah of Long Beach Yacht Club, and third was Kathmandu, Roberty Doughty of California Yacht Club.

All three of the top finishers on handicap time were Santa Cruz-70s from the design board of Bill Lee of Santa Cruz.

Only one IOR Class B boat finished by the 9 a.m. Sunday roll-call. Deception, a Santa Cruz-50 skippered by Dave Meginnity of California Yacht Club, finished at 7:28 a.m. Sunday.

Roller Coaster, skippered by John Fraser of Santa Cruz Yacht Club, finished at 2:35 a.m. Sunday to win the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet division. Other PHRF boats to finish were Joss, Dick Daniels of Long Beach Yacht Club, and Allure, Charles Jacobson of Santa Cruz Yacht Club.
