Community College : Tennis Roundup : Fullerton Opens With Easy Victory

Steve Lord, the No. 1 player for Fullerton College, defeated Rudd McGarty, 6-1, 6-1, in an 8-1 victory over Palomar in a season-opening men’s nonconference tennis match at Fullerton.

Ray Diebel, Fullerton’s No. 2 player, defeated Linh Chau, 6-0, 6-1. Lord and Diebel combined to defeat Ricky Clark and Francisco Sobedanes, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6, to win the No. 1 doubles match.

In another nonconference men’s match:

Saddleback 9, Ventura 0--Mark Hanson, Saddleback’s No. 1 singles player, defeated Chris Gonzales, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3, at Ventura. Saddleback, ranked fourth in the state preseason poll, defeated the UC Santa Barbara JV team, 6-3, earlier in the day.
