Southern Methodist, its football program already serving the stiffest penalty ever imposed, is being investigated by the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. for possible rules violations in other sports. Athletic Director Doug Single said the NCAA is following up on allegations revealed in a seven-month study of SMU athletics by a private investigative firm the university hired, according to the the Dallas Times Herald.

The NCAA has not indicated which sports are under investigation, but a source close to the inquiry told the newspaper the internal report focused on men’s basketball and track.

Single said the NCAA would look at the school’s internal report and then decide if it should investigate further.
