Coronado High School, which has lost nine players to injuries this season, faced another endurance test Wednesday night against visiting Mission Bay in a first-round San Diego Section girls’ 3-A match.

With seven minutes left, Mission Bay tied the match, 1-1. Both sides went scoreless the rest of regulation and through two 20-minute overtimes.

But sixth-seeded Coronado (11-4) hit its first three penalty kicks in the elimination shootout, and Mission Bay missed its three, giving Coronado a 2-1 victory and a matchup Saturday at No. 1 San Pasqual.
