Pacific 10 Roundup : Payton Has 22 Points to Lead Oregon State Past Cal, 65-54
Gary Payton scored 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead Oregon State to a 65-54 victory over California in Pacific 10 Conference game at Berkeley Thursday night.
Oregon State is 16-8 overall and 10-5 in conference play.Cal is 8-16 and 5-10.
Payton scored 8 points in a 23-10 Oregon State run to give the Beavers a 51-49 lead with 1:42 left.
Matt Beeuwsaert led Cal with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Stanford 84, Oregon 61--Howard Wright scored 19 points to lead the Cardinal (18-8, 10-5) over the Ducks (13-11, 8-7) at Stanford.
Oregon made one big run at Stanford when it pulled to within 11 points, 64-53, with 8:35 left. But Wright sank three free throws and Todd Lichti scored five consecutive points to put Stanford firmly in control, 72-55.
