Boxer Alex Ramos Is Jailed After Incident in Pico Rivera

Former U.S. Boxing Assn. middleweight title-holder Alex Ramos was not injured when Los Angeles County deputies shot at him after he allegedly attacked a female roommate, authorities said.

Ramos, 27, was arrested late Friday and booked early Saturday for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon, kidnaping and false imprisonment. He was jailed at the sheriff’s department Pico Rivera office in lieu of $160,000 bail, Deputy Roger Hom said.

Hom said Ramos was despondent after breaking up with his live-in girlfriend, Tracee Jimenez, 26.

Ramos, Jimenez, Teresa Garcia, 25, and her 2-year-old daughter live in the Pico Rivera home close to where Ramos was arrested.

Ramos allegedly threatened Garcia by pointing a gun at her head as she held her daughter, Jacqueline, Hom said.

After a call from Jimenez, deputies went to the home and found Ramos, armed with a gun, in the yard of a nearby home.

Deputy James Longobardo ordered the man to drop the gun.

Said Hom: “Ramos threw down the gun and, as he was kneeling down, he quickly reached under his shirt toward his waistband.”

Longobardo fired one shot at Ramos, believing Ramos was reaching for a second weapon, Hom said. The shot struck a planter.

Ramos was arrested without further incident.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Ramos won his U.S. Boxing Assn. title on April 25, 1984, with a victory over Curtis Park in Atlantic City.
