Catcher Carlton Fisk of the Chicago White Sox, declared a free agent by an arbitrator in the case of owners’ collusion, said he will meet with the Kansas City Royals.
Fisk has until Tuesday to take advantage of his free-agent status or he must remain with the White Sox.
The Royals recently said they had lost interest in Fisk when his demand was believed to be $1.2 million per year.
“We will present the Royals with a substantial, creative package and we’ll see how it goes,” said the 40-year-old Fisk, who hit .256 with 23 home runs and 71 runs batted in last season.
Fisk signed a one-year contract with the White Sox for $700,000 for 1988, but that was before an arbitrator’s ruling made him a free agent.
