The California Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a tractor-trailer rig who ran over a man Thursday as he walked in the traffic lanes of the Golden State Freeway in Burbank, officials said.

Bartus Roos, 29, of Chino Hills was killed about 4 a.m. when struck by the truck in a southbound lane of the freeway, Officer Steve Munday said. Witnesses said the victim was walking toward the southbound tractor-trailer rig, which continued on after hitting the man, Munday said.

CHP investigators had no leads as to the identity of the truck driver or why Roos was walking in the road.

“We haven’t found a car in the area or anything that indicates he was a motorist with a disabled car,” Munday said. “We don’t know what he was doing there.”
