New Jersey Nets’ officials denied charges by former coach Dave Wohl that they failed to act on evidence of drug use by forward Orlando Woolridge after Wohl informed them of it last October.
Bob Casciola, chief operating officer, and General Manager Harry Weltman, who had been silent since Wohl’s allegations two weeks ago, called “completely distorted” Wohl’s account of an incident involving Woolridge at a Princeton hotel in October.
“At no time until February did we have any documentable evidence of Orlando’s drug use,” Weltman said. Woolridge entered a drug rehabilitation program at Van Nuys, Calif., after his admission of cocaine use Feb. 22.
