Danny Ferry’s one-handed, 10-foot shot in the lane with 1:45 remaining broke a tie and helped lead Duke past No. 11-ranked North Carolina State, 73-71, Saturday in a semifinal game of the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball tournament at Greensboro, N.C.

Ferry made only 7 of 17 field-goal attempts. “Too excited, I think,” he said. “I was really forcing things.”

His big basket came after Coach Mike Krzyzewski took him out of the game for a few minutes in the stretch. “He sat me down, and I got my thoughts together,” Ferry said.
