Raid Colombia in Drug War: Gates

Share

A “friendly invasion” of Colombia by U.S. military forces was advocated by Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl F. Gates today as a way to halt the flow of drugs from that country to the United States.

Gates conceded, however, that this country should get the permission of the Colombian government before “using our troops there to clean out that terrible cancer.” Mayor Tom Bradley, who joined Gates at a City Hall press conference to call for formation of a West Coast federal task force to combat the drug problem, declined comment on Gates’ invasion suggestion.
