College Roundup : UC Irvine Rolls Past Azusa Pacific in Baseball, 12-5
Freshman Al Rodriguez and junior Stacy Parker both went 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs each to lead UC Irvine to a 12-5 victory over Azusa Pacific in a nonconference baseball game at Irvine Thursday.
The Anteaters, who had 21 hits, scored five runs in the eighth inning for the final margin. Craig Brink (6-2) allowed 8 hits and struck out 6 in 7 innings for Irvine (19-13-1).
In the Golden State Athletic Conference:
Point Loma Nazarene 5, Southern California College 3--Joe Danis went 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead Point Loma Nazarene to the victory at San Diego. Gary Johnson gave up 12 hits but struck out five in picking up the victory. Carlos Salazar went 3 for 4 for Southern California (7-14-1, 4-2). Josh Johnson (1-4) took the loss.
In nonconference softball:
Southern California College 4-1, U.S. Coast Guard Academy 0-3--In the first game, Cindy Riviere (1-3) gave up 5 hits and struck out 3 and Connie Brazell went 2 for 4 with a home run to lead the Vanguards (2-7) at home. In the second game, Suzie Hopkins (1-3) took the loss for SCC.
