Rolling Hills 9 Gets Jump but Wilts to North Torrance Attack
West Torrance 2, South Torrance 1--Marty Kehoe, Jeff Burkhardt and Ted Holloway combined on a five-hitter and Denny Hocking singled home the winning run in the third inning to lift the Warriors (5-1) in a Bay League opener at South.
Right-hander Jason Butcher went the distance for South (2-3-1), giving up five hits to suffer his first loss in three decisions.
Palos Verdes 10, Torrance 4--Spuds Powell went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI while Lance Haworth scored three runs and had three stolen bases for the Sea Kings (3-5) in a Bay League opener at Palos Verdes. Left-hander Ian McDonald gave up six hits to earn the victory.
Miraleste 18, Providence 3--Senior right-hander Jesse Esphorst pitched a four-hitter and drove in four runs to lead the Marauders (3-5) in a consolation-round game of the Serra Tournament at Jackie Robinson Field in Compton. Miraleste collected 16 hits.
