Soccer All-Star Teams Will Meet Tonight

The 714 all-star high school soccer team will take the field against the 213 all-stars tonight at 6 p.m. at St. Francis High School in La Canada.

The 714 team, coached by Brea-Olinda Coach Manny Toledo, is a group of seniors who live within the 714 telephone area code.

Orange County players on the team are goalie Jeff Holcombe of Troy; forwards Mark Wiedeman of Villa Park, Jeff Hudson of Valencia and Carlos Zavala of Saddleback; midfielders Matt Swindle of Brea-Olinda, Carlos Martinez of Orange, Greg Morales of Mission Viejo, Scott Montroy of El Toro and Mark Melnik of Servite, and fullbacks Mike Laliberte of Kennedy and Mark Villa of Orange.

Because the 619 area code does not have an all-star team, Fernando Martinez, a forward from Central High--the Southern Section 2-A champion--also will play on the 714 team.

On April 24, the winner of tonight’s 714-213 match will play the winner of the 818-805 all-star match, which also is tonight.
