Bishop Montgomery 4, Mater Dei 3--Sammy Huh walked with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to force in Rob Beal with the winning run for the Knights (3-2) in an Angelus League opener at Marine Field in Manhattan Beach.

Bishop Montgomery appeared in trouble when starting pitcher Jon Newville went out in the second inning with a pulled groin muscle, but Erik Russell and Mike Grimmond were impressive in relief. Grimmond earned the victory.

Knights center fielder Erin Norton ended a Mater Dei threat when he made a running catch on a long fly ball with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh.

Cerritos 12, North Torrance 2--The visiting Dons took advantage of 13 walks issued by four North pitchers to score an easy first-round victory in the Redondo/Palos Verdes Tournament.

North starter Brian Dessert walked two batters in the second inning when Cerritos scored four runs.

Ron Mataalii took over and walked four batters in the third as Cerritos scored twice. Greg Davis gave up two walks that led to a run in the fifth and Jim Henderson walked five batters in the sixth when the Dons scored four runs to make it 12-2.

Cerritos (4-2-1) scored each time a batter led off an inning with a walk.

“It was pretty discouraging,” said North Coach Mike Neily.

North (4-3) scored its runs in the second on a sacrifice fly by Henderson and in the fourth on an RBI double by Davis. The Saxons managed just four hits off Cerritos starter Rob Demate.
