The Athletics Congress, acting on a directive from the International Amateur Athletic Federation, will not allow Zola Budd to compete in the United States, pending a ruling on her eligibility.
Budd, 21, a native of South Africa and former world record-holder at 5,000 meters, became a British citizen in 1984 and ran for Britain in the 1984 Olympics. She withdrew from the British team for the IAAF world cross-country championships this month amid charges that she had competed last year in her native country.
General Secretary John Holt told TAC that the IAAF Council will review Budd’s eligibility April 15.
