NIT Roundup : Ohio State Wins at New Mexico, 68-65
Ohio State, the Big Ten’s sixth-place team, is that conference’s only men’s team still alive in postseason play.
Michigan, Iowa and Purdue were all knocked out of the NCAA tournament Friday night, but the Buckeyes advanced to next Tuesday’s National Invitation Tournament semifinals by defeating New Mexico, 68-65, at Albuquerque, N.M.
The Buckeyes (19-12) made only two field goals in the final 14 minutes but hit 13 of 16 foul shots during that stretch. The Lobos, losing at home for only the second time this season, finished 22-14.
Colorado St. 64, Arkansas St. 49--Pat Durham scored 26 points to lead the Rams (21-12) over the Indians (21-14) in an NIT quarterfinal at Fort Collins, Colo.
Connecticut 72, Va. Commonwealth 61--Phil Gamble scored 18 points as the Huskies (18-14) beat the Rams (23-12) in an NIT quarterfinal at Storrs, Conn.
Tonight, Boston College (17-13) will face Middle Tennessee State (23-10) at Murfreesboro, Tenn., in the remaining quarterfinal.
